Check out the clips on Amazon.... HERE

Black Rubber "Bags" is one of my favorites.... but the guitar work on "Ease" is very slick!!!

DAMMIT... the clip on Amazon for Ease doesn't have any of the guitar work!!! That song's like 7 minutes long.

The clip for "Fishing" you can tell is Vai.... he pretty well follows the punk groove through the meat of the songs, but on certain songs he's allowed to really rip through.

Of course, not as obscure but probably one of my favorite Vai albums is "Sex and Religion"... particularly "Pig" and "Dirty Black Hole".

it's really that "obscure" but interesting...
any of Candiria's albums... they're a metal/hardcore band that plays with a 5 piece jazz band (or so bone tells me)

Click on the "Candiria Jukebox" at the side

"Completion Backward Principle" but The Tubes. Totally out of character for me but one of my favorite albums.

... if you like that, you'll have to check out the "News at 11" or something like that on "Leftovers". It's a newscaster reading this horribile rape and mutilation news report while creatures that sound like gremlins eagerly listen (like ravenous tv watchers) Vai sings about how horrible this graphic overload is, and then plays some tasty guitar licks. Vai's mind really does work like few others, but it's not so over the top as to be silly.
When I first heard him, I was surprised he had gotten a deal as he was so different and the 80's
were very much about being "samey" I'm sure his connection to DLR and Zappa didn't hurt, but when you had so many bands sounding like they had one great huge singular guitarist playing for them, somebody with a recognizable style was a unique thing and something to be cherished.
I felt as if I heard one more guy plugged into a Rockman to do his recording I was going to puke.
BTW Vai's terrific live too, a total muppet. In the best way
Yig, "The Completion Backwards Principle" is a great Tubes recording! I saw that tour when I was in School in Tucson AZ. They were totally stripped down(No big stage) playing in a club in 3-piece suits. Fee was in rare form that night, he did a routine about a cattle farmer (This was AZ.) and it was disgusting..and TOTALLY hilarious

I love Passion and Warfare. Did you see Vai in the '86 blues film "Crossroads"?
